"By Tuesday 19th October 2005, I understood the Ultimate Conspiracy. I call it the "Ultimate Conspiracy", because it involves all of us and most of us believe in it and accept it as plain common sense and scientific fact.
More than 99% of us are not even aware that we are part of the Ultimate Conspiracy. The conspiracy can be best illustrated by examining the medical stories of one day. I picked a Tuesday, because the Irish Times (an Irish daily newspaper) has a medical supplement that day. I noted all the medical stories for that day, Tuesday 19th October 2005.
I live in Belfast, Ireland. While eating breakfast with my family, the radio news was on in the background. The latest bird fly story was being reported on the radio. I was eating, chatting with my wife and sons, and not paying much attention to the radio. However, I was very much aware that the bird flu story was on the radio and had been running in the media for the last few weeks.
That day I visited two clients for a particular assignment. While driving I listened intently to a morning talk show. The guest was the Northern Ireland Health Minister, Shaun Woodward. He was interviewed about the proposed smoking ban in the work place and all enclosed public areas in Northern Ireland in April 2007. The minister is an ex-smoker; he smoked twenty cigarettes a day for ten years and gave them up with great difficulty about six months previously. He was positively evangelistic about the ban, claiming that thousands of people will be alive because they won’t die from passive smoking after the ban is introduced. Some people phoned in and questioned the alleged statistics about passive smoking and lung cancer and other diseases. The Minister dismissed their queries with his absolute belief that he will be saving thousands of lives."
